Special Musical Hour with Lou Marini and Bruce Hamada

The electrifying horn player Lou Marini and well-known musician Bruce Hamada will present a one-hour lecture and demonstration at our library!

Lou Marini currently tours with James Taylor and the Blues Brothers Band, and is one of the most sought-after session horn players on saxophone, flute, and clarinet. An original member of the Blues Brothers Band, he appeared in both Blues Brothers movies and plays on their worldwide tours, as well as performing with many other famous musical groups.

This program is produced by the UH Manoa Outreach College's Statewide Cultural Extension Program. Many thanks to the Friends of the Aina Haina Public Library for providing funding for this exciting presentation.

Wondrous Stories Through Magical Papers

Join the magical adventures of stories! Magician and storyteller Yasu Ishida will share stories from all over the world told in Kamishibai ("Paper-Theatre") style, incorporating magic tricks and various paper art forms, including Origami and Pop-Up Arts. Kamishibai is a storytelling style which became popular in Japan during the 1920s. This free 45-minute program is suitable for preschoolers and lower elementary students. Young children must be accompanied by a parent or adult caregiver.

Our Halloween parade is a great opportunity for everyone to practice wearing their Halloween costumes! Program is suitable for ages 5 and under. Children must be accompanied by a parent or adult caregiver.

Teen Read Week Book to Movie Festival

In honor of Teen Read Week, teens grade 6-12 are invited to come relax and enjoy free snacks in our Meeting Room while we show two hit movies based on bestselling young adult novels.

Our movie licensing agreement does not allow us to reveal the movies via website, but feel free to call us or ask us in person during library hours to find out what we will be showing. Hint: one is the 2016 science-fiction movie starring Chloe Grace Moretz, based on the 2013 novel by Rick Yancey; the other is the adaptation of a book by Cassandra Clare starring Lily Collins as a demon slayer. These movies are rated PG-13.

Star Wars Reads Celebration

In honor of Star Wars Reads month, fans of all ages are invited to our day-long celebration of all things Star Wars! This annual nationwide event is sponsored by Lucasfilm and its publishing partners.

Craft your own lightsaber or character puppet, enjoy Star Wars coloring pages, or attend our screenings of three Star Wars films at 10:15am, 12:30pm, and 2:30pm - popcorn provided!
